Debut

Beyond The Brave (2026)

“Ars Magna” (アルス=マグナ Arusu=Maguna) is a Yu-Gi-Oh! archetype introduced in the Booster Pack Beyond The Brave in 2026, and it is connected to the Power Patron archetype and the lore of the card Medius The Pure. The archetype’s monsters have different Attributes and Types, referencing the other archetypes in the lore: Artmage, DoomZ and Elfnote. All the monsters share exactly the same Level 8 and an identical base ATK of 1000, which is low. The name “Ars Magna” itself possibly references the algebra book Ars Magna” by Girolamo Cardano.

The archetype’s support cards form a direct bridge to the Power Patron cards. The Continuous Spell Citrinitas is treated continuously as a card with three other names (Artmage, DoomZ and Elfnote). The deck functions as a support engine, focused on fueling and powering up Power Patron Link monsters. Its playstyle revolves around using the hand and the banish pile as resources. Besides that, each one becomes an extra body on the field when a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Link summon is performed.

Level 8 monsters are usually proper hard to get onto the pitch through Tribute Summons or without dedicated summon effects, meaning you must banish them, make the specific summon, then summon them onto the field. This is interesting, as it can be used generically in a few decks, even if they do not look all that promising away from Power Patron. Now, how much they boost the Medius The Pure lore decks is another matter entirely. I would say it is a really efficient support package built on modern game design. However, when it comes to the Link 3 Medicurius the Power Patron of Illusions, all I can say is that it is UTTERLY BROKEN!!!

Ars Magna Lore & Design

Battle against the Power Patrons

The forces of Artmage, D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G. and Oratio Garden finally put their differences aside to face Vidolium and the awakened Power Patrons.

While their allies fought to hold the creature back, Finmel managed to enter Vidolium’s spiritual world and find Medius within it.

There, she discovered the true source of his suffering. Medius had long carried the burden of being the “Gatekeeper”, a fate he had never chosen. Worse still, his existence was trapped in an endless cycle of battles, forcing him to relive the same conflicts whenever he tried to protect those he cared about.

After understanding the weight of this burden, Finmel decided that Medius should not have to bear it alone.

Transformed into a Power Patron associated with Purification, Finmel joined forces with Medius, who had absorbed a portion of Graflare and Litera’s powers. From the union of these forces, a new entity was born: Medicrius, the Power Patron of Illusions.

However, freeing Medius came at a cost. Without him acting as its vessel and restraint, Vidolium lost control of its own power. The creature went berserk, and its form began to twist into something monstrous.

Faced with this threat, the three factions that had once fought separately were forced to combine their strength. Artmage, D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G. and Oratio Garden joined forces to confront Vidolium in its ultimate form.

Medicrius, however, possessed something none of the other Power Patrons had: the ability to turn imagination into reality.

Drawing upon the supreme art known as Ars Magna, Medicrius gave form to the power of their companions, bringing their abilities together as a single manifestation. Armed with this newfound power, the newly born Power Patron charged into the confrontation that would determine the fate of them all.

Design

The deck represents the new power attained by Medius: Ars Magna. Each of its cards is connected to one of his friends and the Summoning mechanic or archetype they represent.

Each Main Deck monster shares the same Type as the character it represents:

  • Infinity and Finity — Finmel (Fusion/Warrior)
  • Purification and Corruption — Graflare (Xyz/Dragon)
  • Unification and Separation — Litera (Synchro/Spellcaster)

The Link Monster, meanwhile, represents Medius himself: Medicrius, the Power Patron of Illusions, the ultimate expression of the power of Medius the Pure.

All monsters in the archetype are Level 8. Each one fulfils a different role: one searches for a monster, another searches for a Spell/Trap, while the third Special Summons monsters from the GY and from banishment.

Basically, all three are designed to work towards the same goal: bringing out Medicrius, the Power Patron of Illusions.
