Sennet: Ritual And Normal Monsters Back Again

Sennet

“Sennet” (セネト, Seneto) is a Yu-Gi-Oh! archetype introduced in Deck-Build Pack: Glorious Victors in 2026. The archetype takes its name from Senet, an ancient Egyptian board game, giving us yet another group of cards inspired by Egyptian motifs, which has long been a familiar theme in Yu-Gi-Oh!

The archetype features a very simple mechanical and thematic split across its Main Deck monsters. Every monster is a Zombie-Type monster, divided between Effect Monsters and Ritual Monsters. The Effect Monsters are LIGHT, while the Ritual Monsters are DARK. Sennet is a Ritual Summoning deck built around an unusual synergy with Normal Monsters and the manipulation of the Spell & Trap Zone. In simple terms, the deck uses Normal Monsters from the Deck or the Graveyard as Ritual Material, then equips them to its Ritual Monsters to grant protection or extra effects before bringing them back to the field as monsters.

Despite being a Ritual-focused deck, the archetype has no dedicated Ritual Spell Card. Instead, that role is handled by its Field Spell and Trap Cards. In addition, the Ritual Monsters can discard themselves from the hand to improve the deck’s consistency.

Unlike more “traditional” Ritual strategies, which often struggle with poor card advantage, Sennet performs Ritual Summons by sending materials directly from the DECK, uses non-Effect Fusion Monsters from the Extra Deck through Sennet Per Akh, and turns Normal Monsters into Equip Spells that provide protection and disruption during the opponent’s turn. In other words, this is a turbo Ritual deck that clearly wants Ritual strategies to become competitive again, bringing Normal Monsters along for the ride.

By now, it is clear that the current direction of Yu-Gi-Oh! is focused on bringing older mechanics back into relevance by making them far more practical in the modern game. We’ve already seen this with Tribute Summoning, archetypes that lock players out of the Extra Deck, and new ways to make Trap Cards worthwhile. This time, the spotlight falls on Normal Monsters, Ritual Summoning and, surprisingly enough, Normal Monsters from the Extra Deck.

Historically, Ritual Summoning has required three separate cards: a Ritual Spell, a Ritual Monster and a Tribute. Sennet eases that requirement by allowing the Ritual Material to come straight from the Deck, while its Ritual Monsters can discard themselves to improve the quality of your hand. Modern Ritual Monsters come with effects that activate when discarded. Sennet Per Akh even gives forgotten Extra Deck Fusion Monsters, such as Gem-Knight monsters or Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, a practical purpose by treating them as Normal (non-Effect Monsters).

The archetype has several highly valuable qualities that make it a very viable strategy, although it relies on running a fairly high number of Garnets, meaning monsters that you really don’t want to draw.
