The Return of Battles
A new era begins in Duel Terminal, though its harsh reality remains unchanged; new tribes, new characters, and new conflicts rise alongside it. The fire tribe known as the Laval invade the Gem-Knights simply for their own amusement, led by Laval Judgment Lord. These constant provocations force the Gem-Knights to prepare for war. The conflict leads to the sacrifice of Gem-Knight Ruby, who gives her life to protect her people.
Yet in the middle of the chaos, an intervention descends from the skies. The mechanical angels known as the Vylons arrive to put an end to the spreading conflict, not only between the Laval and the Gem-Knights, but across the entire world.
The Vylons were created by a celestial race called the Constellar in order to defeat the Steelswarms. Since the Vylons were immune to the enemy’s corrupting influence, they managed to seal that evil away long ago. Recently, however, the Vylons sensed the return of the Steelswarm presence due to Noellia’s actions, which is why they descended to the surface once more.
Elsewhere, the Gishki, led by Noellia, invade Mist Valley in search of its resources, only to face resistance from the descendants of the ancient wind tribe, the Gustos. The Gishki possess the power to transform their bodies into monsters, while the Gustos fight alongside their bird companions.
Noellia sinks further into forbidden arts in an attempt to bring her old friend Natalia back to life. Even her own daughter, Gishki Emilia, loses her life during the rituals. The truth is that Noellia had already fallen under the corrupting influence of the Steelswarm before launching the invasion. Her goal is to obtain the power of “God” within the Shrine of Mist Valley, where a divine being is said to sleep.
But what was sealed there was not a god.
It was the corruption itself—the Steelswarm.
The Steelswarm are a malicious force that were once known as the Evilswarm before being imprisoned inside armour. They consume everything in their path, and nothing escapes their endless hunger, not even the Gishki who set them free.
Corruption of the Heavens
As the corruption spreads across the world, the Vylons warn the Constellar, who quickly send their strongest machine into battle: Vylon Omega.
The Vylons and the greatest warriors from each tribe join forces to slow the Steelswarm infestation, transforming themselves into weapons and equipment. With their support, Vylon Omega unleashes its decisive attack upon the plague, attempting to wipe it from the face of the earth through divine judgement.
But things do not go as planned.
Noellia manages to corrupt the Vylons by assimilating their hive mind and spreading the Steelswarm influence through their systems. The Vylons become infected.
Now the very machines that came to save the tribes turn against them, forcing the surviving factions into an alliance to stop the angelic constructs. During the conflict, many Vylons are destroyed. Yet one Steelswarm survives—Steelswarm Sentinel—and comes into contact with a fragment of a Vylon.
Light and darkness, goodness and evil fused together create a new evolved being: Steelswarm Roach.
Noellia suffers fatal wounds during the battle and abandons the war. The Gishki decide to leave behind their original objective and join the remaining tribes in order to survive against the greater threat.
The four tribes then awaken the new Xyz power to defeat Disigma, the monstrous Xyz union formed from multiple corrupted Vylons. Disigma absorbs the heroes who stand against it, pushing the tribes towards complete defeat.
With everything nearly lost, Gem-Knight Pearl destroys Disigma through an Oni-Gami Combo. Her attack grants victory to the tribes once again.
After Disigma’s destruction, the Steelswarm have nowhere left to go, so they return to the dying Noellia, allowing her body to recover. With Noellia restored, the Gishki resume their ambitions and ally themselves with the Lavals, only to betray and absorb them in order to increase their own power, seemingly bringing the fire tribe to ruin.
The Gishki continue their assault on the Gustos, and Noellia mercilessly releases a poisonous mist into Mist Valley. The deadly toxin claims countless Gusto lives, and the tribe would have been annihilated if not for the arrival of the Gem-Knights.
Through fusion, Daigusto Emeral purifies the air of the valley. Meanwhile, Gem-Knight Crystal perfects his abilities and evolves into Gem-Knight Zirconia, becoming even stronger in the fight against the Gishki.
The Rise of the Evilswarm
As hatred continues to spread across the land, the defeated Evilswarm find fertile ground to rise once again.
The Evilswarm can infect anyone and anything, taking control of the bodies of those who fell in battle, including the Ally of Justice and the Genex. Even the Ice Barrier Dragons fall victim to the infestation.
With the situation spiralling out of control, the Constellar descend to the battlefield themselves to face these psychic horrors.
Noellia remains loyal to the darkness, breaking the seal that releases the dragons and using Steelswarm bodies to resurrect them. At the same time, Avance, Natalia’s son, attempts to use the same forbidden rituals to revive Emilia. He fails, and the backlash causes him to absorb Emilia’s soul into himself.
Avance transforms into a monster: Evigishki Levianima.
Now consumed entirely by corruption, Noellia becomes Psychelone and attacks everything in her path, leading to the death of Constellar Castor. Soon after, the Evilswarm corrupt Castor’s body and turn him into one of their own.
Yet Castor’s final attack restores a fragment of Noellia’s sanity. Seeing what she has become and the destruction she caused, she sacrifices herself to bring Emilia back and free Avance from his curse.
The Constellar and the Gem-Knights unite through an even stronger transformation to stand against the dragons. Constellar Pollux battles his own brother Castor, and the two destroy one another simultaneously. However, Constellar Rasalhague and Seraphinite manage to restore them.
Seven Constellar then unite to create an even greater power: Constellar Ptolemy M7, the divine dragon.
At last, the tide finally begins to turn towards the light.
Even Zirconia ascends further, becoming Gem-Knight Master Diamond.
And so, high above the skies, the great battle unfolds between the divine dragon Constellar Ptolemy M7 and Evilswarm Ouroboros, with Gem-Knight Pearl making a heroic sacrifice to protect the dragon.
The Goddess of Rebirth
But something else is about to change Duel Terminal forever.
A strange and unknown phenomenon begins to spread across the battlefield. The Divine Wind of Mist Valley starts blowing towards the Shrine of Mist Valley, gathering around the altar where a being known only as “God” sleeps.
Disappointed by the endless conflict covering the world, that existence begins to awaken.
The altar is destroyed, and Sophia, Goddess of Rebirth appears with the intention of erasing every form of life inhabiting the world. Within Sophia’s hands rest light and darkness, creation and destruction alike.
And Sophia acts upon that purpose.
One tribe after another falls before her power, and not even the Constellar escape destruction.
In response, Gem-Knight Master Diamond passes his fusion power to Lazuli and Virgo. Lazuli then fuses with all twelve Constellar, and the power created by that union becomes so immense that the crystal containing Sophia’s power of creation is absorbed into the fusion itself.
A warrior carrying the power of a god is born: Constellar Sombre.
Sombre confronts Sophia.
Meanwhile, Rasalhague, who was not part of the fusion, puts his own plan into motion. Alongside the young Avance, Emilia, and the Gishki Aquamirror, Rasalhague fuses with the three dragons.
This fusion becomes powerful enough to absorb Sophia’s crystal of destruction, giving birth to Evilswarm Kerykeion.
Together, Kerykeion and Sombre wage a battle against Sophia that lasts for days. In the end, they manage to strike and shatter the orb upon the goddess’s forehead, the source of all her power, finally banishing her from the world.
After the battle, Sombre and Kerykeion vanish without explanation.
Those who survive gather together to rebuild the fallen world. There are no gods left now. The future rests in their own hands at last.
And the next era still waits ahead…
